Little Kamper 1lb Propane Tank Exchange
Watch VideoTranscript
When it comes to spending time outdoors, we head to parks, beaches, campgrounds, and the stadiums where we watch our favorite teams compete. These trips regularly include the enjoyment of meals cooked on grills and camp stoves that run on disposable 1 pound propane cylinders. 1 pound propane tanks are also used for lanterns, heaters, and other devices that make being outside comfortable and fun.
When it’s time to clean up and head home, the disposal of 1 pound propane tanks is a major problem. They just can’t be thrown away as trash, and they are very expensive to recycle. For our national parks, camp grounds, and other outdoor recreation destinations, cleaning up disposable propane tanks has become time consuming and incredibly expensive. And every year, we discard millions of disposable propane tanks.
That’s bad for the environment and particularly bad for our favorite outdoor destinations where the cylinders are left behind. Our mission is to solve that problem and help maintain all of our favorite outdoor spaces. That’s why we have introduced the Little Kamper 1 pound propane cylinder exchange program. With the Little Kamper, you buy our prefilled tank from a participating retailer and connect it to any grill, stove, or other device that runs on a 1 pound tank.
The Little Kamper holds the same amount of propane and works exactly the same way. It works with grills, camp stoves, lanterns, heaters, you name it. If your device can run on a 1 pound propane tank, it can run on a Little Kamper. The big difference with the Little Kamper is what happens after you are done having fun, the Little Kamper tanks are designed to be reused.
So when your tank is empty, you just take it back to your local Little Kamper retailer and exchange it for a full tank. Most people don’t use a disposable propane tank with their grill at home, and now no one has to when they take their fun on the road. Plus, Little Kamper tanks are professionally refilled for safety and can be reused for up to 12 years.
So now you can have all of the same fun and enjoy all of the same great food without throwing away any propane tanks. Using Little Kamper tank exchange is a simple way for you to help reduce waste in your favorite outdoor places. Ask for the Little Kamper where you buy propane tanks. 40 Million Reasons to Change
Watch VideoTranscript
When you walk through camp grounds around dinnertime on a summer weekend, dark green propane tanks are easy to spot. Connected to portable barbecues and camp stoves, the 1 pound disposable tank is clearly the most common way to get dinner ready after a day in a state or National Park. So too at parking lot tailgate parties before sporting events, fans prepare their favorite pregame meals on small barbecues.
In North America over 40 million disposable tanks are sold annually, that’s an astonishing number of steel cylinders to be thrown away after only one use. Sadly, only a small percentage end up properly recycled.
For nearly all of these propane users, the sustainability of their fuel cylinder choice is unclear. The cylinder can cost anywhere from $3 to $9 depending on where they buy it. Virtually, none of them know that the cost of collecting, storing, transporting, and safely recycling a single cylinder can be higher than the purchase price of the tank. And in most cases, our parks get stuck with the bill.
At Yosemite, propane cylinders are collected in dedicated bins to keep them out of the garbage. The tanks are collected by park staff until they are recovered by a hazardous materials recycler. A recent pickup was over 4,300 cylinders. The last year that the cylinders were counted, the total for Yosemite was over 24,000 tanks.
The process for recycling disposable tanks is hazardous and time consuming. Many just end up in landfills, that’s why we have introduced our Little Kamper 1 pound cylinder exchange as the alternative to disposable tanks. Millions of Americans already use cylinder exchange for their refillable propane barbecue tanks. When the tank is empty, it’s brought back to a tank exchange retailer for a convenient exchange of the empty tank for a full replacement.
Tank exchange is the sustainable, safe, and convenient way to reduce the volume of disposable tanks left in our parks. The long term solution for this problem is for consumers to buy, use, and exchange 1 pound cylinders that are designed to be professionally refilled. Each Little Kamper tank can be reused for up to 12 years and each reuse is one less tank in the trash.
If you own or manage a retail store and you care about sustainability, please join the Little Kamper retailer program. If you use dark green propane tanks, find a Little Kamper retailer and switch to the solution that creates less pollution. 40 million tanks is enough, choose sustainability and make the switch to Little Kamper 1 pound tank exchange.
