We’re solving a real problem
If you currently sell single-use propane cylinders, you may already know that they create real problems for our campgrounds and parks. In fact, it can actually cost more to recycle one single-use cylinder than to purchase it.
Wouldn’t you like to be on the clean side of the equation?
You Get Repeat Business
We mean it. Our customer journey starts with a sale and continues with exchanges. At each step, your store is visited by a living, breathing customer who wants to buy the Little Kamper on your shelf. Once they’re in the store, what else might they buy?

Get this—dark green single-use cylinder aren’t actually “recyclable.”
Yes, they’re made of recyclable materials. But there are two BIG problems with the idea of recycling single-use propane tanks.
1 lb dark green cylinders are frequently discarded with measurable amounts of liquid propane inside. This makes them hazardous when collected as trash. You can’t compact or even deconstruct a propane cylinder because that leftover liquid propane can cause explosions or fires that lead to injuries and expensive equipment damage. That’s why they’re classified as hazardous waste, which makes them expensive to recycle.
Also, they’re often discarded at campgrounds and parks that end up paying for their collection, transportation, and disposal. This puts a strain on our parks funds and resources.
Quite often, more than they cost to buy. Crazy, right? That’s because hazardous materials recovery, transportation and disposal requires special handling to keep people safe. It adds up to a high cost that is 50x higher than the value of the scrap steel. It’s not unfair to estimate the total disposal cost of a single-use cylinder at $5.00. For less than $0.10 worth of steel,
The only safe, proper way to recycle a tank is to remove any leftover liquid propane so the tank can be safely punctured. It’s a time-consuming process than involves hazardous manual labor.
That’s a great question. The full cost isn’t actually paid when you buy. Realistically, it’s often more expensive for a park to recover and recycle single-use cylinders.
That’s why our exchange program is so important. Instead of paying to recycle old single-use cylinders, parks can focus their money where it matters—preserving and caring for our natural world.
Our program covers the cost of retiring and recycling Little Kamper cylinders when they reach the end of their service period or if they fail to pass our safety testing. We recover all unused liquid propane before the cylinders are retired and we recycle our own cylinders.
That’s the most important question of all.
Every Little Kamper exchange equals one less cylinder in the waste stream. Our exchange program brings our cylinders back through our retailers to our production center for inspection, cleaning, and refilling.
Over the course of a ten year period, one Little Kamper cylinder can keep more than 30 dark green, single-use cylinders out of landfill!
